Princess of Wales to make rare public appearance at Wimbledon on Sunday

Catherine, Princess of Wales, will be at Wimbledon on Sunday.

The 42-year-old monarch, who revealed in March that she was receiving chemotherapy after learning she had cancer, will make an uncommon public appearance this weekend at the men’s singles tournament final, according to Kensington Palace.

As the All England Club’s patron, Catherine will deliver the prizes.

Only Trooping the Colour on June 15 will be her second formal public function in the last seven months.

With her husband Prince William, Catherine has three children. Since having stomach surgery in January and learning she had cancer, she has been recovering in seclusion.

“I underwent major abdominal surgery in London in January, and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous,” she said in a March video message. The procedure went well.

Tests conducted after the procedure, however, revealed the presence of malignancy. As a result, my medical team recommended that I start a prophylactic chemotherapy course, which I am now doing.

“William and I have been doing all we can to digest and handle this quietly for the sake of our little family since this came as a big shock.

“This has taken time, as you may understand. To begin my therapy, I had to take some time to heal from a significant operation. Above all, however, it has taken some time for us to convince George, Charlotte, and Louis that everything would be well and to explain everything to them in a manner that suits them.

“As I have said to them, by concentrating on the things that will support my recovery—in my mind, body, and spirit—I am healthy and becoming stronger every day.

“Having William at my side also gives me a lot of certainty and comfort. As is the affection, encouragement, and compassion that many of you have shown. It is very important to both of us.

We hope you will appreciate that, as I finish my therapy, our family now needs some time, space, and privacy.

I have always found great delight in my profession, and I look forward to returning when I am able, but for the time being, I must prioritize my complete recovery.”
