Amazon's advertising has become a significant source of revenue, generating nearly $10.7 billion in the second quarter alone, marking a 22% increase year over year

Amazon's advertising business has surpassed its subscription services, including Prime, in terms of revenue

It is also twice as large as Amazon's physical store segment, primarily consisting of Whole Foods

Amazon offers advertising services to third-party sellers and vendors to enhance their sales on the e-commerce platform

Up to now, Amazon's Prime Video has been ad-free, unlike other streaming platforms like Netflix and HBO Max

Starting in early 2024, Prime Video will begin including "limited advertisements," marking a departure from its previous ad-free status

Prime members who wish to maintain an ad-free experience on Prime Video can do so by paying an additional monthly fee of $2.99, effectively increasing the cost of their Prime membership by 20%

While Amazon periodically adds new perks to its Prime membership, it has also introduced fees for services like Fresh grocery delivery, making some aspects of Prime less appealing

The inclusion of ads in Prime Video for those not willing to pay an extra fee is seen as Amazon's attempt to generate additional revenue from its Prime members

Some Prime members who were initially drawn in by the ad-free streaming service may be displeased with the new choice they have to make
