Rio de Janeiro's Christ the Redeemer statue was illuminated in honor of Taylor Swift, following lobbying from her fan base, the "Swifties

The statue, located atop Corcovado mountain, displayed a light-projection tribute to Swift's "Junior Jewels" T-shirt from her music video "You Belong With Me

The message "Welcome to Brasil" was projected in English, but with the Portuguese spelling of "Brazil," and featured the names of the country's 27 states

Die-hard fans gathered both at the famous statue and in the square below to witness the special tribute

The Catholic rector responsible for the statue, Omar Raposo, issued a challenge on Instagram, promising a special message if fans raised 300,000 reais ($60,000) for charity

In response to the challenge, fans flooded social media with calls to welcome Swift to Brazil, prompting a successful fundraising campaign

The overwhelming response to the charity campaign, despite technical issues that crashed the fundraising site, raised more than 180,000 reais in less than 24 hours

The funds raised will be used to provide food baskets as part of the World Day of the Poor initiative on November 19, launched by Pope Francis

The tribute extended beyond the statue, as a giant ferris wheel on Rio's Guanabara Bay was also lit up in honor of Taylor Swift, featuring a lyric from her song "Blank Space

The special illumination of both the Christ the Redeemer statue and the ferris wheel added to the excitement surrounding Swift's three-night stop in Rio as part of her global "Eras Tour
